Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Ross Tuckey and I work at the Gas Assessment Centre in Guildford. The reason for my email is just to test the water with local Universities and Colleges with regards to Natural Gas/Carbon Monoxide awareness training.

You may have recently heard about two teenage boys, Keith Reynolds 17 and Michael Frosdick 19, that died of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning after being exposed to fumes from a badly installed gas fire in their rented flat.

This all happened after the two lads had complained about the lack of heating, and the Landlord had enlisted the help of a local handyman to fit the second hand appliance. Neither of these men were competent gas engineers.

In light of this terrible incident we are concerned that students staying in rented accommodation are not aware of their Landlords duties and also are unprepared when faced with a dangerous or poorly maintained gas appliance. With this in mind we are considering offering a short Gas/CO2 Awareness training session to new or existing students and wondered whether this would be of interest to your members.

If we received a positive response to the above course we would then look further into funding/grants available for this type of training. We strongly believe that this type of training is long overdue and could simply prevent future fatalities.

I look forward to your comments,

Kind Regards,

Ross Tuckey.
